Comedy Rescues Flagging Spirits Threatening Employee Production

new Teambuilding Productions program eases tension in downsized companies

Happier employees increase production.PHOENIX—April 8, 2008—Companies are downsizing and stress is taking its toll on the national workforce. TeamBuilding Productions however, offers a smile, a chuckle and a way to help those left in the office deal with the aftermath of pink slips. A new interactive teambuilding workshop, “Tough Day, Rough Day,” provides much-needed comedic stress relief, while it builds morale, breaks down barriers, and helps a company understand how their employees are handling the recession.

A clear and present danger remains for streamlined teams that suffer with extra work and stress. The Wall Street Journal warns employers, “Recession fears are causing more than just stock-market jitters this winter. They're also shaking some workers' confidence in their ability to continue earning a paycheck.” (First quarter 2008, WSJ/Careers, by Sarah E. Needleman.)

The “Tough Day, Rough Day” program addresses the current issues of today’s economy: grumpy employees worried about more layoffs, poor peer morale, and bigger workloads. In a half- or full-day team workshop where anything that can go wrong probably will, the morning begins with cold coffee and only bagel crumbs left in the break room, for example, and may lead into an office with computers offline, printers not responding, and a new, unannounced deadline imminent. The fast-paced scenarios inject humor into problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork, to rally the employees for an inventive learning opportunity.

Like April Fool’s Day all over, “Tough Day, Rough Day” participants will be unaware of the program—it’s just another bad day at the office—until people begin to act and react, demonstrating resourcefulness and teamwork.

TeamBuilding Productions’ staff of professional comedians and actors combines the elements of organizational development theory, theatre, and technology to make each program educational, entertaining and successful. Its productions are customized to meet the individual needs of each company and the teams involved.

Other popular team activities include “Corporate Movie Production” and “TV Commercial Productions.” Teams ranging from 10 to 1,000 employees in diverse industries have participated over the past 20 years. Greg Wyatt of American Express appreciated TeamBuilding Productions’ program ingenuity, “We had a lot of fun…I appreciate your ability to draw from us the words to express our strengths, goals, and a vision of the team as a whole." Disneyland, Starbucks, Unilever, and other international Fortune 500 companies have participated in TeamBuilding Productions’ creative workshops.

Bruce Fischer, founder and program director, credits TeamBuilding Productions’ success to his background as professional musician, videographer, author, publisher, and marketing consultant. “I love helping people discover their enthusiasm for their working environment.”
