Go-No-Go – Wordplay Wednesday™ 01/05/2022

Make Resolutions, Goals, or a Cocktail?

Happy New Year!

So, I’ve been contemplating the state of the planet and my role in it, during this first month of the New Year. I made a cocktail when I realized how frustrating that can be ... so are you making resolutions, goals, or like me, frustrated and making a cocktail?

This is of course, the time of year when we question every decision we made last year. The problem with decisions is you never really know if they’re good ones until you see the light in hindsight. But decide we must. Cross your fingers and make it a ...

GO-NO-GO (ʹgō-ʹnō-,gō; ca. 1945) adj. – 1) being or relating to a required decision to continue or stop a course of action*; 2) being or relating to a point at which a go-no-go decision must be made. [*Might I also add, “or create”? WW-M #313]

Just an observation ... you would think this is a simple course of action. But making decisions can be agonizingly difficult. Much too often, we hesitate ... hesitate too long and your decision may ultimately be a go-no-go made by someone else, taking all control, for better or for worse, out of your hands.

I’m sure you know the old saying, “He who hesitates is lost” ... but interestingly, its origin in an 18th century play (Cato; 1713) by Joseph Addison, actually says, “The woman that deliberates is lost.” Yes, you gotta love those old-fashioned male-dominated sayings. Does it truly matter who said it?

Although go-no-go is a relatively new word in the whole scope of dictionaries, its meaning has controlled the course of time throughout history. Decisions can be the bane of one’s existence. And the beginning of a New Year is fraught with decisions—especially if you’re a resolution setter and/or goal-maker. Not only are your lists a lesson in go-no-go, they must then be prioritized. Ahhhhh!

Breathe.

Trust your instincts.

Then come to a sage, go-no-go conclusion.

Word Challenge: GO-NO-GO. Without a crystal ball, only the information in front of you will help make  your resolutions, goals, and life choices, as you fit go-no-go into your week of decisive writings and casual conversations.

Original intro, 01/05/2022: Happy New Year! For all my intent to have this article finished and posted on time—my first goal of the New Year—one out of two ain’t bad! It’s here, but not quite finished ... if you’re seeing this message, you’re just a tad early. It’s almost “there,” but needs a few links, a little more text, and definitely, images. Please revisit a little later for more Wordplay and sprucing up! So, I made a cocktail to get this far ...
